INTERGOVERNMENTAL PANEL ON CLIMATE CHANGE

February 20, 2007

INTERGOVERNMENTAL PANEL ON CLIMATE CHANGE: The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) was established in 1988 by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) in order to assess the available scientific, technical, and socio-economic information in the field of climate change. The IPCC is organised into three main working groups: working group I concentrates on the climate system; working group II on impacts and response options; working group III on economic and social dimensions. The site provides information on each of the working groups, including their remit, structure and future activities. There are also bibliographic details of published reports. The IPCC Second Assessment Report was released in 1995, and the Web site contains a synthesis of scientific, technical information and three summaries for policy-makers produced by the three working groups. The IPCC also produce technical papers based on material in IPCC Assessment Reports and Special Reports. These are available as Adobe Acrobat (pdf) or Rich Text Format (rtf) files. A quarterly newsletter called The United Nations Climate Change Bulletin is available online in full-text. The site requires a frames capable browser.
